CHARACTER
CHARACTER NAME: Carley
SERIES: The Walking Dead game

CANON POINT: Episode 3, after her death
LOSS: She can no longer drink coffee without it burning her

ABOUT THE CHARACTER: Carley is very loyal, standing by the people in her group and trying to look on the bright side of their actions even when they drive her crazy like Lilly tends to do. To her, everyone should get their fair shot and their chance to prove themselves. She's willing to welcome people to the group if they need help and don't pose an obvious threat, tries to calm people down when they're fighting and tries to act like the voice of reason. She's very no nonsense, but has no problem taking orders when they're good ones. She doesn't want to be leader, just to support whoever is.

At first she tells Lee to keep his past to himself so the group can keep it together while they're all stuck in close quarters in the drug store, but once things calm down she's the one who pushes him to be honest knowing that keeping such a big secret could tear the group apart. Protecting her group is the first thing on Carley's mind, to the extent that she doesn't care that Lee has murdered someone, he's good for the group and a good leader and in a zombie apocalypse, your actions now outweigh what you did before the world went to shit.

She's also incredibly compassionate, turning down food offered (unless it's the apple, what a weirdo) so that Clementine or Lee can have more to eat. When she and Ben go back to get the others from the motor inn and eat some of the food from the St. John's farm on the way, she suggests that they stay behind and let the others go get a home cooked meal so that it works out fairly.

That said, she is still fiercely protective of the group and seems to make very fast judgments on newcomers. Strangers who appear on their own are treated with caution, while Ben and Mark are welcomed in quickly. With no regard to her own safety, Carley argues with Lilly on Ben's behalf, believing the best of him after he's accused of stealing supplies.

Carley was a reporter and has spent time in war-zones to cover stories, so she's used to keeping her cool when things go bad. She often steps in at just the right minute to shoot a zombie going after someone and doesn't freak out after, focusing on dealing with the problem at hand first instead of wasting time.

She tends to easily get attached to people, even quickly developing romantic feelings for Doug after he saved her from walkers. In contrast to that, it takes her a few months to blatantly tell Lee she has feelings for him. She gives affection easily, wiping grime of Lee's cheek and later kissing it should he reciprocate her feelings.

She has a good sense of humor, joking with Lee about her own inability to work with batteries and accepting that he's just going to tease her about it forever, talking about how Doug is hot in that "parent's basement sort of way", using sarcasm to diffuse uncomfortable or painful situations and having no problem calling Glenn out on inappropriately hoping to get a date during the zombie apocalypse.

ABILITIES: Carley is a normal human reporter, but she's a crack shot and comfortable with firearms. She's had experience in war zones, which makes it easier for her to perform under pressure.

She fails at batteries though, don't let her to anything with batteries.

THIRD-PERSON WRITING SAMPLE: It's kind of weird, knowing she died and that she's getting a second shot. Her first few hours being alive again, Carley just stays in her room and thinks. It all happened so fast she never had time to be afraid, to be angry. She can do that now, curse Lilly's name and swear her revenge, plot how she'll handle everything should Lilly ever show up here.

But... she doesn't. What the point be? Even now Carley knows that what happened was the act of a woman at the end of her rope and it's impossible to condemn someone who barely had a grip on what they were doing. And she has to wonder, what happened after that? To Clementine, Ben, Duck and Katjaa had been hurt. She even finds herself worrying about Kenny and Lilly, as crazy as they made her.

What happened to Lee? She has to believe that wherever he is, he's got Clem with him, safe and sound. Maybe she'd get a kick out of a place like this, a magic castle with all these stone walls to keep the walkers out, all the chalk she could ever wish for right at her fingertips all the time.

Maybe being here is like what the St. John's farm could have been, if it hadn't been run by insane cannibals. Safe, plenty of food, somewhere they could all stop being afraid. It's kind of nice, something of a miracle after all that hell in Macon. Still, months of being prepared, of having her handgun on her at all times, it's a feeling she's kind of missing.

So her first wish? It's for her fucking Glock back.

INTENT: What you mean OTHER than the amazing cast already in the game? Carley is just an awesome character and much different from Cass, so I think it'll be fun to balance the two.

Plus she sucks at batteries who doesn't love that?
